Cooling Refrigerants of the Future. An air conditioner or heat pump counts on its refrigerant to cool and dehumidify the air before it’s streamed back into your home. This liquid is contained within the coils of your cooling system, but one of the most common refrigerants that’s been in use for many years – the R-22 (Freon) is now being replaced because of environmental concerns. In fact, this phase-out was mandated by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency through the Clean Air Act. By 2020, the production of R-22 will end all together. Introducing R-410A Chlorine-free and ozone-friendly, R-410A is recognized by the EPA. R-410A will cool your home without harming the environment. Additionally, Lennox’s most efficient systems are made to use this AC refrigerant, which can help your system function efficiently. The same Lennox systems are known for durability, quiet operation and enhanced dehumidification, so you can stay comfortable. Additional Considerations At Guidry's Air Conditioning & Refrigeration Service in Raceland, our cooling models can work with R-410A. If your system was installed before 2010, you may want to consider replacing your cooling system now, before R-22 is completely phased out. Some manufacturers carry alternate refrigerants such as R-407C, R-438A and R-422, however, they may not work with an R-22 AC or heat pump and could compromise your system’s performance.
