Cooling Refrigerants of the Future. Stored in your air conditioner’s coils, refrigerants are liquids that cool and dehumidify your air. If there weren’t refrigerants, there wouldn’t be air conditioning. For years, the most common AC refrigerant was R-22 (Freon), but in 2012 the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) mandated the phase-out of R-22 through the Clean Air Act. By 2020, R-22 will no longer be legal to produce due to its damage to the environment. Introducing R-410A To decrease environmental impacts, all Lennox® products are now compatible with the new R-410A AC refrigerant. R-410A is EPA-recognized and doesn’t contain chlorine, which means it’s ozone-friendly. You can feel at ease using this refrigerant in Raceland because it’ll help make your system operate efficiently, reliably and quietly, and provide the same cool comfort in the warmer months. Additional Considerations If your AC or heat pump was manufactured anytime before 2010, it may not be R-410A-compatible. You might think about upgrading your cooling system before R-22 is totally unavailable. The old refrigerant will become rare in the next few years, costing you more to run your system effectively. The Lennox products we offer at Guidry's Air Conditioning & Refrigeration Service work with R-410A, so you know we have an AC or heat pump that better meets your needs. You should also steer clear of”alternate refrigerants that claim to work in R-22 systems. These include R-407C, R-438A and R-422, all of which can actually compromise your system’s performance.
